My Random Video Game Memories:

My parents gave me a Nintendo 64 for my fifth birthday. With it, I got the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Diddy Kong Racing. I remember watching my dad play through Ocarina of Time and loving it (I was too scared to play it myself), but I’m not even kidding when I say that I wasted my life away on Diddy Kong Racing. I would wake up just to play that game with my brother (we would play JointVenture all day, err’y day) and then I would get sad when I had to stop playing it ‘cause I needed to sleep.

There was just something about the game that had me addicted.

I’m not sure why, but part of me thinks that Diddy Kong Racing is the reason I fell in love with video games.

Weekend Remix: Triforce Of Metal

Song: Skyward Sword Theme (Metal Version)
By: Artificial Fear
Based On: The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword Theme
Original Composers: Hajime Wakai, Shiho Fujii, Mahito Yokota, Takeshi Hama and Koji Kondo

It’s time to grab the Master Sword from its slumber for this week’s Weekend Remix.

2011 has served as a special year for The Legend Of Zelda for a couple of reasons. For one, 2011 marks 25 years of Triforce gathering, hook-shooting, dungeon-crawling adventures with everyone’s favorite green-capped protagonist. And two, this year has also allowed Nintendo to release the much anticipated Skyward Sword, the Ocarina Of Time prequel that’s got many gamers and critics already showering praises.

When it comes to Nintendo creations, you can usually bet that the gaming company will take special attentive care of their titles, especially in the music department.  The Legend Of Zelda series has already inspired a tidal wave of gaming remixes. But that doesn’t mean you should skip Artificial Fear’s remix of the Skyward Sword theme.

Much like last week’s Skyrim remix, Fear’s take on the theme is a metal affair, sprinkling some folksy vibes and soaring with screaming guitars. What’s impressive, is not only the fact that Fear skillfully plays every guitar on this tune from bass to acoustic, but also makes each instrument fit together like a seamless musical puzzle. The song kicks off with an impressive power that’s also as fearless as Link himself. And this eventually segues into a softer acoustic take on the melody, before eventually ripping into a fantastic guitar solo.

If you’d like to hear more from Artificial Fear, please check out his You Tube page here.

Until next weekend…GO Party!
